Trusted or Likeable - Which is Key in Sales?
Blog Posted: Thursday, October 1, 2009
One columnist and public speaker in business development circles has recently strongly put forth the notion that people will do business with those they "like", and that the widely held notion that garnering trust as the key to building business relationships is mistaken. He asks people in the audience in one of his programs posted on YouTube which they believe to be most important by a show of hands. When the vast majority raise their hands indicating that trust is more important, he issues a strong rebuttal. Is this business development and sales guru on to something ?

Life Study - 20 Minutes per Day
Blog Posted: Monday, September 14, 2009
This activity is, in my experience, is as essential as having a rudder on a ship. I have carried out this essential practice almost every day for more than thirty years. Also, I think it is easier to be successful at doing it consistently if we chose a time each day, while eating lunch for instance, and then being fiercely protective of this time, because, over time, nobody can compete with someone who has consistently schooled themselves on how to live well.

In an ESPN poll taken recently posing the question, "Who is the greatest athlete of the 20th century?", the results stunned some sports fans; I can honestly say I wasn't surprised in the least. Several years ago I was being interviewed by a career placement firm, better known as a head-hunter, and toward the end of the interview i was asked to talk about my relationship with my son. At first puzzled about why the question was posed, I went along with the man interviewing me and shared how that part of my life was going. I then asked why the question was posed and what relevance it had to whether I was the right person for the opportunity in question. It turns out it was more of a predictor of this agency finding the right person than I could have imagined.

Peak Performance for 20 Years, The Don'ts
Blog Posted: Monday, August 17, 2009
Achieving championship sales results for a couple years is very challenging. That said, being number one for twenty years in a technology company with an international footprint and a large sales force is another matter entirely. It requires a level of commitment to "turn the impossible into the possible". Since I was fortunate enough to accomplish this I will share some of the things I avoided at all cost.
